Biomass
Biomass refers to living and recently dead biological material that can be used as fuel or for industrial production creating primarily heat and electrical energy. Biomass also includes biodegradable wastes that can be burnt as fuel such as sewerage. Fossil fuels differ from Biomass due to a result of a transformation, undertaken by geological processes over many thousands of years to produce fuels such as coal and crude oil. Biomass can equally apply to both animal and vegetable derived material. If biomass is correctly managed, it represents a sustainable fuel that is relatively low cost to implement compared with other renewable energy technologies. The are many benefits to using biomass and its depolyment is set to increase in the coming years given the abundance of plants and other biological material globally. Additionally, modern biomass combustion systems are highly sophisticated, offering efficiency comparable with fossil fuel boilers with lower emissions.
